So here is one quick story that happened on Wednesday. I guess I should preface this story by saying that we have had to apply "Safety" Helpers or "locks" to many area of our home because of our very own resident "curious George" a.k.a. Ava Grace Mayeaux! Two of those helpers are in the kitchen. One is a bungee cord that is wrapped around the handles of our refrigerator, and the other is a lock on the top of the door to our pantry! With this being said, I shall clue you in to a day in the life of me: I prepared sippy cups for all three children and a little snack for them as well. I put the bungee cord on the refrigerator, and I placed the lock back on the pantry! I did double check this! We then went in the living room to begin watching "underdog"!Ray starts crying a little when I realize that he needs a diaper change. Upon coming back in the living room with ray ,Ava walks in and says "MOMMA I'M MAKIN POPCORN FOR THE MOVIE"! Finding this rather odd, since everything is locked up, I ran into the kitchen! Upon entering the kitchen I look to where the microwave is and literally see FLAMES, yes I said flames coming out of the top and the sides of the microwave! So I scream for everyone to get out of the kitchen!I get a dish towel and sop it full of water, use one of the girls play mop handles open the door of the microwave and smother the flames! Smoke was everywhere! While all of this is going on, Emma is screaming that she is going to die & we need to "EXIT THE BUILDING" like she saw on T.V. She kept insisting that we needed to STOP, DROP,&ROLL! I was trying to explain to her that although there was some smoke, the fire was gone and we were safe! When I was finally able to calm her down I went to investigate the scene of the crime. I don't watch C.S.I. for nothin! At the scene of the crime was a dining room chair pulled up to the kitchen counter and not popcorn in the microwave but a bag of "potato pearls" (freeze dried potato's).The bag is completely made of aluminum, hence the fire/ flames. When interviewing my suspect Ava, I came to realize how she retrieved the fire hazard to begin with. She pulled the chair to the counter, climbed on the counter top, stood on her tippy toes, unlatched the lock, grabbed the potato's and Viola' , presto FIRE!! Unbelievably the microwave is still usable thank god! The moral of this story is "NOTHING IS EVER SAFE"!!Although this could could have not ended so well, I thank God that Ava came and told us she was making popcorn! Thank you Lord for always protecting us and giving us wisdom in ALL circumstances!!!
